I’m Jim A. Foster, LUTCF. With more than 50 years of business experience, I speak to rooms of entrepreneurs and coach business owners one-on-one to get unstuck, strengthen their foundations, and grow.

My Story

It Started With a Leap of Faith in 1971.

I grew up in Chapelton, Jamaica, and I’ve been in front of people since I was a boy, going door to door with my parents to share our faith as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Those early years taught me how to connect with people, and they gave me a love of speaking that has never left me.

In 1971, just three months into a lucrative engineering job, I was passed over for a promotion. That was the day I committed to becoming my own boss. An unexpected call into the insurance industry opened a new door, and it revealed my real passion: serving people, especially those who are often overlooked or underserved.

That passion took me to the top of the industry in my native Jamaica. Along the way, I earned membership in the Life Insurance Million Dollar Round Table and won national and international sales and quality awards. Nearly a decade later, political upheaval led me to walk away from the dream life I had built, and I landed in America with $50 in my pocket.

Over time, I returned to insurance and founded Better Business Solution, LLC from home, then spent the next 25 years building it into an award-winning insurance company. Along the way, I earned more awards, including the Consumers’ Choice Award for Best Insurance Agency.

I also became the first African American president of the DeKalb Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, serving two terms, sat on the Georgia State Board, and helped represent our industry before the U.S. Congress on insurance reform.

In 2007, I sold my book of business (keeping the rights to the Better Business Solution name), fully intending to ride off into the sunset to a life of ease and luxury, only to lose almost everything in the recession that followed.

But I didn’t slow down. I co-founded the Metro Atlanta Home Based Business Chamber of Commerce, served as a SCORE mentor to aspiring and small-business owners, and today serve as president of the Georgia HOMEBASE Business Chamber of Commerce. Everything I learned starting, stabilizing and growing a business became the foundation of my 4-P Framework™.

Why I Started Passing the Pearls

It Began With an Invitation.

I was invited to speak to an audience of women entrepreneurs. As I prepared, and then during the Q&A that followed, I felt a growing connection with these women and their stories.

When I was asked to return and speak again, I knew I had to do something unique and different for this group. Passing the Pearls is that answer: a place where women entrepreneurs are uplifted, energized and inspired, and no longer have to build in silence.

Passing the Pearls is a mastermind community for women entrepreneurs. It’s separate from booking me to speak and from one-on-one coaching.
